We’ve selected half a dozen Christmas crackers to get you through Christmas lunch, Boxing Day cold turkey and way beyond. Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
47 AD Prosecco DOC NV
This is a classy serve and perfect as an aperitif on Xmas morning. It’s refined, not too sweet and has a delicious Williams pear lick. A modern and stylish take that will easily impress.
Architects of Wine Riesling 2016
This minimum-intervention Riesling from Clare Valley packs a lime and honey punch. A tinge of orange peel and ginger make it so very Christmassy. The perfect match for smoked salmon or simple on its own.
Barbera Öhlzelt Kellerweingarten Grüner Veltliner 2016
Coming from Kamptal this linear, mineral Grüner has wet wool and sweet shop fruit (confected apple and pear) characters and a keen Granny Smith acidity to tie it all together. There’s a richness too which makes it very food friendly.
Ministry of Clouds Grenache, 2014
Full and plush with aromatic, freshly-picked fruit (raspberries, cherries) and a lick of pepper and fire, we can’t think of anything we’d rather serve with duck, goose or red meats on Christmas Day. So versatile.
El Mozo El Cosmonauta y el Viaje En El Tiempo 2016
Rioja was made for the winter months and this rich, earthy wine from the Rioja Alavesa is an ideal winter-warming red. There’s generous red fruit, dusty tannins and a savoury tang.
Mar 7 Pedro Ximénez NV
If any wine has the character of bottled Christmas pudding it has to be Pedro Ximénez. This super sweetie from Jerez has intense fig, candied peel, date and prune notes and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel and finish. Lush, sticky and an ideal accompaniment to Xmas pudding and blue cheese.
